Title: Recent developments in astrophysics of the Sun

Speaker: Prof. S. Siraj Hasan, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore

About the Speaker: Professor Siraj Hasan is currently Distinguished Professor at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics in Bangalore. Prof. Hasan is well known in India and abroad for his distinguished academic and research work in astrophysics. He joined the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore in 1997 and in 2006 took over as Director of the Institute. As Director, Prof. Hasan has initiated several major programmes. Noteworthy among them is a state-of-the-art National Large Solar Telescope. With over 100 research publications to his credit, Hasan's work is widely cited and has made a significant impact in solar astrophysics. He specializes in the study of dynamics and energy transport in the solar atmosphere with a view to delineating the processes responsible for heating its outer layers. He has guided several graduate students for their PhD work as well as supervised a number of post-docs.
