Title: The synthesis of the elements

Speaker: Dr. Sandeep Sahijpal, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh

Abstract: The bulk elemental/isotopic inventories of the solar system along with all the stars and galaxies in the universe were established by a wide range of stellar nucleosynthetic processes operating within stars. The universe originated around 13.7 billion years ago by a big-bang. The processes operating within the early universe established the initial elemental cosmic inventories of hydrogen and helium. The rest of all the elements were synthesized inside stars by stellar nucleosynthesis. The billions of stars formed and evolved over the last ∼13 billion years in the galaxies synthesized the present elemental/isotopic inventories of stars including our sun and its planetary system. I shall be presenting a brief account of these astrophysical processes on the basis of my research.
