About the Department

Department of physics is one of the major research centers among Indian Universities with a status of Center of Advanced Study since 1988. Presently the department has strength of 42 faculty members , 80 non-teaching/assisting staff, 40 research students and about 250 graduate and undergraduate students. About 30 research projects worth six crore rupees under national/international collaborations are operating in the department.

Some of the faculty members have been honored with Meghnad Saha award, Hari Om Trust award, DAE young scientist award and N.S.Satyamurthy award. Achievements of the faculty also include awards of Indian Academy of Science fellowship, Joliot Curie fellowship, Alexander Von Humboldt fellowship, Fullbright fellowship, Commonwealth fellowship, Third world fellowship and UGC National lecturer fellowship, associateship of ICTP, Italy.
