Essentials for Ph.D. students

2. The following categories of candidates shall be eligible for enrolment/admission for Ph.D., if otherwise eligible:
(i) Candidates who have cleared PU Test,
(ii) Candidates who have cleared UGC NET/CSIR (JRF) Exam./SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship holders/direct awardee of fellowship by DST (INSPIRE), ICMR or any other national agency or any other equivalent test,
(iii) Sponsored foreign students holding valid research visa for doing Ph.D. under the ICCE/other academic exchange programme fellowships of governments are not required to appear in the entrance test.
3. Applications on the prescribed form for enrolment shall be considered by the University thrice in a year as under:
From July 15 to July 31,
From November 15 to November 30,
From March 15 to March 31.
4. Pre-Ph.D. course work is necessary for candidates who are enrolled after 11/07/2009.
The students who have done the equivalent course work in M.Phil. need not do the same again during their Ph.D. programme.
5. Every candidate must complete the course work and submit the registration form and synopsis for Ph.D. registration within a year after the completion of course work.
6. There can be a supervisor and joint or co-supervisor. Joint or co-supervisor may be appointed on the request of the candidate and the supervisor, from the teaching dept./PU Regional Centres/Research Centres approved by PU and postgraduate Regional Centres of Universities recognised by the UGC and also from the national/autonomous institutions, national/autonomous organisations and national/autonomous laboratories to be certified by the chairperson of the concerned dept., provided they fulfil the conditions mentioned for appointment of a supervisor.
7. Maximum time limit for submission of Ph.D. thesis is 8 years.
Normal period: 3 years,
Extension period: 2 years (beyond 3 years),
Condonation of delay period: 3 years (beyond 3+2 years).
After this period enrolment and registration of the candidates will be treated as automatically cancelled.
